Paris Agreement
The Paris Agreement is a legally binding international treaty aimingto limit global warming to well below 2° C, preferably to 1.5° C,compared to pre-industrial levels. It was adopted by 196 Parties in2015 at COP21 in Paris and entered into force in 2016.
The Paris Agreement is a landmark achievement in internationalcooperation on climate change because it is a binding agreement forall Parties to scale up efforts to combat climate change and adapt toits effects. It also provides the instruments for developed nations toassist developing nations in their climate mitigation and adaptationefforts, while creating a framework for transparent monitoring andreporting of results (The climate dictionary, UNDP).
