Participation at workshops "The Electoral Politics of Climate Change at a Time of Polycrisis: Challenges and Opportunities" & “Illiberal Derisking and the Run on Resources”
Our consortium partner Áron Buzogány (BOKU University Vienna) participated in critical debates on climate and development politics this May:
1️⃣ At the University of Vienna’s workshop “The Electoral Politics of Climate Change at a Time of Polycrisis” (15–16 May), he presented joint research with Mihail Chiru (University of Oxford). Their paper, “Feel the Heat: Climate-Related Hazards and Issue Attention in the European Parliament”, examines how extreme weather events shape political focus on climate policy, a timely contribution as crises reshape electoral dynamics.
2️⃣ At the Capitalist Transformations Conference in Cluj-Napoca (19–22 May), Buzogány and co-author Mihály Varga unveiled their study “Illiberal Derisking and the Run on Resources”.
Both events highlighted the urgent interplay of politics and environment, themes central to our work.
